Job Description
LawnStarter, the prominent online marketplace for lawn care and home services operating under the brands LawnStarter, Lawn Love, and Home Gnome, is seeking an Analytics Engineering Manager for Data Platform & Governance. This position operates on a full-time basis on-site.
As the first dedicated data governance owner at LawnStarter, you will act as a hands-on manager who builds automated monitors, maintains metric definitions, and establishes trustworthy foundations across Redshift, dbt, Airflow, and Lightdash. You will start as an individual contributor working alongside a senior analytics team, with plans to hire a Lead Analytics Engineer who will report directly to you. This role suits a hands-on technical leader with an automation-first and AI-native mindset who enjoys shaping raw systems rather than babysitting mature ones.
You will oversee data freshness, metric definitions, event tracking catalogues, AI data readiness, and security controls across the company. Success in this role means transforming scattered business demands into a structured roadmap, ensuring that product, marketing, operations, and finance teams can reliably self-serve data without friction or incident.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the data roadmap by gathering and prioritizing needs from product, marketing, operations, and finance.
- Implement automated monitoring for source data, pipelines, and reports to detect freshness issues and schema changes before downstream breakage occurs.
- Manage the Lightdash workspace transition, including workspace structure, user permissions, rollouts, and semantic layer extensions.
- Govern Segment event tracking catalogues through rigorous reviews, property dictionaries, and drift detection mechanisms.
- Establish data security, access controls, and PII handling routines that comply with US state privacy laws.
- Ensure the data warehouse remains legible and safe for internal AI tools like Brain to query accurately.
Requirements
- Experience as a hands-on manager responsible for the output and priorities of others while remaining active at the keyboard writing SQL, debugging Airflow, and configuring permissions.
- Daily usage of AI tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or ChatGPT to write checks, automate tasks, and handle documentation.
- Strong product mindset capable of translating vague stakeholder requests into prioritized technical plans.
- Automation-first approach that favors building persistent monitors over manual checklists.
- Ability to enforce data standards and say no gracefully to stakeholders.
