Operating within a fully remote team across the United States and Canada, this hands-on position requires taking ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, including month-end closes, accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and expense compliance.

Joining a 250-person workforce, the Assistant Controller will report directly to the Vice President of Finance, freeing leadership to focus on broader strategic goals.
Responsibilities
- Manage and continuously improve the month-end close process for accurate and timely financial reporting
- Handle accounts receivable, general collections, and complex billing exceptions such as disputes and terminated accounts
- Oversee accounts payable duties including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, and platform troubleshooting
- Enforce compliance on corporate card and employee reimbursement spending with proper coding and documentation
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Finance on weekly cash management and cash flow forecasting
- Help implement new finance systems such as automated collections and expense management tools
- Standardize accounting workflows to minimize manual tasks, errors, and redundant work
- Provide guidance and mentorship to support the accounting team's daily capacity
- Deliver data-backed responses to ad hoc financial inquiries from company leadership
Requirements
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience encompassing month-end close alongside accounts receivable and accounts payable management
- Hands-on operational experience using QuickBooks Online
- Familiarity with accounts payable or collections platforms like Tipalti and Bill.com or Bill Spend and Expense
- Proficiency in Google Workspace applications including Sheets, Docs, and Slides, with the ability to maintain cash forecasts in Sheets
- Practical experience utilizing AI tools, specifically Claude, to streamline accounting tasks such as variance analysis and reconciliations
- Strong organizational abilities to navigate competing priorities and tight deadlines
- Clear communication skills tailored for non-finance stakeholders
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- Certified Public Accountant designation or active CPA candidacy
- Practical experience utilizing NetSuite
- Previous background within an advertising, marketing, or professional services agency environment
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting personnel
- Experience leading or supporting financial system implementations
