Job Description
ITMates is hiring a senior or principal AWS Solutions Architect for a full-time contractor position supporting a US fintech and payments platform. This fully remote role requires availability with US Eastern time zone overlap. The professional chosen for this position will take ownership of the AWS architecture for a heavily regulated payments ecosystem, managing everything from network design and security baselines to multi-account structures and cloud expenditures. The job involves creating reference architectures for various services, directing multi-region disaster recovery planning, establishing security protocols, and executing FinOps practices like cost right-sizing and savings plan administration. Candidates should be comfortable conducting Well-Architected reviews alongside engineering units and documenting technical tradeoffs clearly.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve the multi-account landing zone utilizing Control Tower, Organizations, and IAM Identity Center
- Establish reference architectures for RDS or Aurora, EKS, Lambda, and MSK services
- Lead multi-region resilience and disaster recovery planning with verified RPO and RTO goals
- Implement security standards encompassing network segmentation, secrets management, and KMS key strategies
- Execute architecture reviews and Well-Architected assessments together with engineering teams
- Drive FinOps initiatives including budgeting, tagging, savings plans, and resource right-sizing
Requirements
- Bring 8 or more years of background in cloud or infrastructure engineering
- Possess at least 4 years of specific architecture experience working on AWS
- Build infrastructure as code at scale using CDK or Terraform
- Have professional experience working within SOC 2 or PCI DSS compliant environments
- Demonstrate deep networking expertise including PrivateLink, VPC, and Transit Gateway
- Communicate effectively by writing clear design documents and defending trade-offs in English
Qualifications
- Hold an AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Security Specialty certification
- Bring past work history in platform engineering or SRE roles
- Have familiarity with card-processing or core banking integrations
