Capstone Integrated Solutions seeks a Blue Yonder (JDA) / RPG Consultant for a full-time remote role supporting a major retail client. The employer operates as an AWS consulting partner specializing in cloud engineering and artificial intelligence, building software through agentic engineering and AI-augmented delivery governance.
This position requires an independent technical specialist who can work directly inside the MMS environment rather than providing basic end-user or functional assistance. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on expertise with IBM i systems, database management, and system integrations, and is capable of owning technical outcomes, defining task breakdowns, and guiding engineering teams.
Responsibilities include building IBM i applications, integrating systems via web services and JSON or XML, establishing coding benchmarks, mentoring junior engineers, and managing complex agentic workflows where specifications drive development. The role involves close collaboration with solutions architects and engagement managers to deliver scalable and observable technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain IBM i applications utilizing free-format RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, and CL with ILE concepts.
- Manage DB2 for i databases using SQL, DDS, physical and logical files, and subfiles.
- Integrate IBM i software with external platforms through web services, JSON, XML, FTP, and the Integrated File System.
- Handle testing, deployment, and post-deployment support while resolving technical obstacles alongside client teams.
- Establish code quality benchmarks, mentor software engineers through code reviews and pairing, and contribute to architecture presentations.
- Manage project-specific tooling setups, validate specifications, and ensure the correctness of generated code in complex workflows.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering background.
- Demonstrated expertise with IBM i development including free-format RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, CL, and OS/400 commands.
- Strong SQL proficiency on DB2 for i alongside knowledge of DDS, subfiles, and legacy RPG versions.
- Familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions, iSeries Navigator, the IFS, and data formats like JSON and XML.
- Practical experience with Blue Yonder MMS.
- Familiarity with spec-driven or agentic development workflows using tools such as Claude Code, Kiro, Amazon Q Developer, or Cursor.
- Working understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
Qualifications
- Background in the retail industry.
- Experience with AWS cloud services or platform modernization projects.
- Knowledge of Java development, including Java on IBM i or modernization from RPG to Java.
- Previous work supporting enterprise data center environments for IBM i systems.
