Job Description

Canonical is recruiting a remote Business Development Representative for its sales development group. The representative works alongside the regional sales and marketing unit to uncover customer projects that match Canonical's product range, and to raise the company's presence across different sectors and regions. The core task is building pipeline: producing qualified leads for senior sellers and, in some cases, owning and closing small and mid-sized business deals inside an assigned area.

Daily duties include launching outbound sales and marketing campaigns, researching prospects and market developments, and collaborating with multiple teams and senior decision makers to get results. The representative also helps shape the team's working practices and policies, and attends events and conferences worldwide to staff stands and meet prospects in person.

Applicants should have a history of beating outbound sales targets, experience taking prospects up to senior executive level, and some background in enterprise software or technology selling. Clear presentation, negotiation and English writing and speaking skills are expected, along with a readiness to keep improving. According to the posting, people from this team often move into other sales specialisms such as channel, IoT and enterprise selling.

The posting presents the sales development team as a route into technology sales careers. It notes that the company is profitable and growing, and lists Google, Amazon, IBM and Microsoft among its partners.
