The Sierra Club seeks a Campaign Organizing Strategist to shape and execute state and regional campaigns that tackle climate disruption, shift energy economies, reduce pollution, and preserve natural resources. Operating as part of a nationwide environmental organization boasting nearly 800 staff members and 64 volunteer-led local chapters, this role collaborates closely with staff, volunteers, coalition partners, and legal and communication specialists. The position centers on designing strategic plans, guiding field teams, fostering volunteer leadership ladders, and advocating for organizational priorities before government officials and media outlets.

This role is well-suited for an experienced campaign strategist and community organizer who excels at building collaborative team cultures, coaching colleagues, and utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data to track progress. Candidates must be prepared to engage in frequent evening and weekend work, manage heavier seasonal workloads, and travel as needed. While Los Angeles is a preferred location, the position can be performed remotely within California. As a unionized employer, this position falls under a collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute state and multi-state strategic campaign plans in collaboration with leadership and chapter directors
  • Monitor state policy and regulatory proceedings to identify opportunities for mobilization and intervention
  • Coach, support, and supervise campaign organizers to cultivate a positive team environment and track metrics
  • Build a comprehensive volunteer development framework to guide participants from onboarding to leadership roles
  • Represent the organization publicly before government officials, partner coalitions, and media organizations
  • Draft educational documents, presentations, reports, and deliver public testimony and lobbying efforts

Requirements

  • Extensive background as a field organizer, campaign strategist, or leader of community organizing campaigns
  • Proven proficiency in planning and executing state-level campaigns that incorporate policy, lobbying, and communications
  • Strong communication capabilities tailored for diverse internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated experience leading collaborative teams and establishing mutual accountability
  • Familiarity with tracking organizing work using both qualitative stories and quantitative metrics
  • Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends along with handling regular travel

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with environmental, energy, climate justice, and conservation topics
  • Understanding of state political, policy, and regulatory landscapes along with existing relationships with key players
  • Working knowledge of digital platforms including G-Suite, Zoom, Canva, Mobilize, and Hustle
