Job Description

PointClickCare is hiring a remote, full-time Principal ML System Engineer, open in the United States. The engineer serves as technical lead for the company's machine learning infrastructure, which supports both traditional ML and generative AI work throughout the company. The role acts as product owner for that platform and works with product and engineering leaders to convert business goals into a multi-quarter technical roadmap.

The employer is a privately held, founder-led health technology company. Its platform is used by more than 30,000 provider organizations and includes a marketplace of over 400 integrated partners.

Responsibilities include defining reference designs and standards for data and ML pipelines that cover training, evaluation, deployment and serving. The engineer sets MLOps direction, including model CI/CD, model registries, feature stores and experiment logs, and makes build-versus-buy decisions for core parts. Reliability, observability and performance practices for production ML systems are also set here, along with the platform's security design: access control, audit logs and compliance monitoring. Standard, cost-effective ways to connect the platform to existing systems and data sources are part of the work.

The engineer leads and mentors senior engineers across the company, shaping ML infrastructure direction. The posting expects top-tier skill in Python and Java, deep experience building ML platforms at scale, familiarity with MLflow, Kubeflow and Ray, and experience with cloud platforms, containers and orchestration.

Responsibilities

  • Turn business and product aims into a multi-quarter technical roadmap for the ML platform
  • Set reference designs and norms for pipelines that handle data and ML at scale
  • Establish MLOps practice: CI/CD for models, registries, feature stores and experiment logs
  • Lead build-or-buy calls on core platform parts
  • Define standards for how production ML systems stay reliable, observable and fast
  • Design the platform's security model covering access, logging and compliance
  • Establish efficient, secure integration patterns for APIs, systems and data sources
  • Mentor senior engineers and steer the company-wide ML infrastructure roadmap

Requirements

  • Top-tier skill in Python and Java, grounded in software engineering basics
  • Deep background designing ML platforms and MLOps workflows at scale
  • Working knowledge of MLflow, Kubeflow, Ray or similar model-serving frameworks
  • Extensive cloud work on AWS, Azure and/or GCP, with containers, Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proven success steering technical direction and running org-wide initiatives across several teams

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in CS, ML or a related area
  • Familiarity with Azure Machine Learning, Databricks and ML frameworks
  • Experience leading and sustaining cross-team systems
  • Experience implementing role-based access, multi-factor authentication, network security and compliance tracking
  • Skill in tuning LLM serving and large-scale model training and inference to reduce latency and cost
