Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and decide on prior authorizations and appeals based on clinical guidelines and benefit criteria
  • Comply with federal, state, and internal regulations
  • Record clinical decisions accurately in compliance with utilization review accreditation standards
  • Communicate with members, prescribers, and pharmacies to answer clinical inquiries
  • Keep up-to-date with prescribing guidelines, internal policies, and regulatory adjustments
  • Adhere to HIPAA rules and internal procedures to safeguard patient privacy
  • Detect and report potential fraud, waste, and abuse
  • Aid in training new and current team members
  • Help leadership with special assignments and process enhancements

Requirements

  • Possess a Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution
  • Hold an active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of residence
  • Bring a minimum of two years of pharmacy practice experience
  • Demonstrate strong communication, writing, and organizational abilities
  • Maintain availability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or fixed schedule

Qualifications

  • One year of prior authorization or utilization management background
  • One year of experience working in managed care or pharmacy benefit management
  • Direct history with prior authorization reviews, clinical appeals, formulary exceptions, step therapy evaluations, and quantity limit reviews
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive
