The position requires professionals to conduct sixty-minute sessions on a weekly, bimonthly, or monthly basis with both students and their parents. Daily tasks entail formulating customized admissions strategies, building well-rounded college lists tailored to individual interests and goals, offering constructive feedback on admissions essays, and scheduling application deadlines including Early Decision and Early Action options.

Additional duties include organizing student activities resumes, preparing for recommendation letters, practicing mock interviews, planning campus tours, monitoring standardized testing and academic progress, overseeing independent projects, and comparing final college acceptance offers. Professionals also document meeting notes following each session and maintain consistent communication to ensure client satisfaction.

This part-time engagement requires between four and ten hours of weekly availability and offers a flexible schedule alongside reliable client demand. Compensation ranges from $85 to $95 per hour, determined by relevant background and expertise.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience as an Independent Educational Consultant, a high school college prep guidance counselor, or an Associate Dean or Director of Admissions at a four-year degree-granting college or university in the United States
  • Strong relationship-building abilities and an empathetic, outgoing demeanor
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Capacity to operate independently with high attention to detail and project management capabilities
  • Proficiency with scheduling platforms, web-conferencing tools, online lesson delivery systems, and document sharing software
