Twist Bioscience Corporation is seeking a Commercial Counsel to join the team and provide legal support for the commercial and biopharma divisions. Twist Bioscience operates as a synthetic biology and genomics enterprise that utilizes a silicon-based DNA synthesis platform to manufacture genes from scratch for applications in health care, agriculture, industrial chemicals, and data storage. This remote position focuses heavily on managing commercial, biopharma, and international legal matters.
This role is designed for legal professionals with a background in drafting and negotiating high volumes of commercial contracts within the life sciences sector. The position involves working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, overseeing agreement intake workflows, updating legal tech playbooks, and managing international tenders. Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate standard commercial, biopharma, and legal documents including tenders, supply and services contracts, distribution agreements, collaborations, and material transfer agreements
- Create and refine AI tool playbooks using legal operations applications such as Gemini, Notebook LM, Ironclad, and enterprise GC AI
- Oversee processes and workflows related to the intake, review, and approval of agreement requests for commercial and biopharma
- Advise cross-functional business stakeholders regarding contracting best practices and relevant legal updates
- Manage outside legal counsel and determine when external consultation is necessary
- Support non-United States employment and corporate matters as needed
Requirements
- Fully qualified solicitor with a minimum of one year of post-qualification experience, or four to seven years of relevant contractual and commercial background at a law firm or in-house legal department within biotech, pharma, or life sciences
- Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating, and overseeing a high volume of commercial and pharma agreements, including tenders globally
- Written and spoken fluency in English
- Capacity to prioritize and handle multiple strict deadlines in a fast-paced corporate environment
- Ability to manage domestic and international contracts while assessing risk and benefit trade-offs
Qualifications
- LL.B. or equivalent degree
- Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin
- Familiarity with sequencing products, synthetic biology processes, antibody therapies, drug development, and personalized medicine
- Basic comprehension of corporate or employment law
