Job Description
Anthropic, an organization dedicated to developing safe and reliable artificial intelligence systems, is seeking a Community Engagement Manager to represent the company locally in Indiana and Kentucky. In this role, you will act as the primary local liaison for data center infrastructure projects, bridging the gap between internal technical teams and regional stakeholders. The ideal candidate will cultivate lasting partnerships with municipal leaders, community organizations, and residents throughout the site selection, construction, and operational phases.
Your daily efforts will involve monitoring local sentiment, hosting informational sessions, coordinating philanthropic investments, and collaborating with energy and real estate partners to address community questions regarding land, water, and power usage. Because this infrastructure footprint is expanding rapidly, you will also help design scalable engagement processes for future markets. This position requires regular travel of up to 50 percent within Indiana and Kentucky, as well as occasional trips to other data center regions.

- Host listening sessions, public forums, and educational events to build external coalitions and present clear community benefits
- Represent the organization publicly at town halls, planning board hearings, and local media interviews

- Collaborate with Real Estate and Infrastructure teams to integrate community feedback into project delivery
- Coordinate local charitable giving, economic development initiatives, and nonprofit partnerships
- Partner with Energy and Sustainability teams to address community inquiries regarding environmental stewardship and utility needs
- Develop a scalable community engagement playbook for future infrastructure expansion
Requirements
- Experience working in community affairs, public affairs, government relations, economic development, or local and state government
- Direct engagement history with county and municipal governments or local stakeholders on major infrastructure, energy, technology, or construction projects
- Demonstrated ability to build trust, navigate challenging conversations, and form coalitions among diverse stakeholders
- Capability to represent the company professionally in public environments such as hearings, press interviews, and town halls
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain complex operational plans in plain language
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects, and master complex policy issues quickly
- Must be based in Indiana or Kentucky, or willing to relocate, with readiness to travel regularly across both states
Qualifications
- Seven or more years of professional experience in community engagement focused on large industrial infrastructure, data centers, energy, or utility projects, or background in local government
- Familiarity with county and municipal level zoning, land use, and permitting processes in Indiana or Kentucky
- Background in managing corporate social responsibility programs
- Pre-existing relationships with civic, workforce, or economic development organizations within the covered markets
- Experience working concurrently across legal, real estate, policy, and communications teams
