This full-time, on-site consultant role in the Emergency Department of a hospital in Abuja covers the assessment and stabilization of acute medical and surgical emergencies. The physician leads the emergency team during shifts, performs emergency procedures, supervises junior doctors and works on clinical governance and protocols.
Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and manage acute medical and surgical emergencies, including resuscitation of critically ill patients.
- Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, central line placement and chest tube insertion.
- Lead the emergency team on shifts and manage departmental resources and staffing.
- Supervise and mentor junior doctors, medical students and nursing staff.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of post-specialization experience in emergency medicine.
- A valid medical licence to practise in Nigeria.
- Proven expertise in complex, high-acuity cases and experience in resource-limited settings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
- An MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- A fellowship in emergency medicine, such as FCEM or FRCEM, or equivalent.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certifications.
