Job Description
This full-time, on-site Consulting Architect role focuses on designing, building, and fixing Elasticsearch platforms for customers. The listing gives the location as India. The posting describes the job as the person customers turn to when an Elasticsearch platform is causing problems, or when a new platform needs to be designed correctly the first time.
Responsibilities include designing and building Elasticsearch platforms in self-hosted, orchestrated, and managed forms, including air-gapped and regulated settings. Clusters are sized from workload traits like ingestion volume, document structure, retention windows, query concurrency, and growth rate, then validated with benchmarks. It also covers reviewing live environments and fixing them, version upgrades, snapshot planning, disaster recovery design, and multi-cluster setups.
The work extends beyond Elastic itself. It involves diagnosing performance problems across the JVM, operating system, storage, network, and neighboring systems in the data path, and building reusable tooling and automation, including AI-assisted tools for diagnosis and reporting. The posting asks for at least eight years of hands-on Elastic Stack work, mostly on cluster and platform design. The posting values people who can explain shard and index decisions in plain terms.
Responsibilities
- Design and build Elasticsearch platforms in self-hosted, orchestrated, managed, air-gapped, and regulated settings
- Size clusters and plan capacity from workload data, and validate the results with benchmarks
- Review live environments and correct them where needed, including sharding, mapping, and index design
- Own major-release upgrades, backup and disaster recovery design, and multi-cluster setups
- Diagnose performance problems across Elastic, the JVM, operating system, storage, network, and adjacent systems
- Coordinate with the architects on the customer side, platform owners, and engineering heads, and take responsibility for technical results
- Build reusable tooling, automation, and AI-assisted diagnosis and reporting tools
- Coach fellow consultants and add to the technical practice
Requirements
- At least eight years of hands-on Elastic Stack experience, mainly on cluster and platform work
- Skill in working out shard counts and sizes for a given workload, with trade-off reasoning
- Index and mapping design and how those choices affect cluster performance
- Lifecycle and retention planning across data tiers, including cost and latency effects
- Snapshot, restore, and disaster recovery work that has been designed and executed
- Experience with major-version upgrades in production, including sequencing, breaking changes, and rollback
- Experience across several deployment models, covering a managed or orchestrated option at minimum
- Diagnosing stability issues such as JVM heap pressure, GC behavior, breaker trips, thread pool backlogs, shard placement, and costly queries
- Solid Linux and OS foundations, plus working knowledge of storage and networking
- Experience troubleshooting shared infrastructure and working with the team that owns the cause
Qualifications
- Elastic Certified Engineer certification, or the knowledge to obtain it within the first quarter
- Awareness of how host-level conditions appear as cluster problems, and how infrastructure decisions cap what a deployment can do
Core Skills
Benefits

- Health coverage for employees and families in many locations
- Flexible scheduling options for many roles
- Generous annual vacation allowance
- Match of up to $2,000 for financial donations and service, plus up to 40 volunteer hours per year
- Parental leave of at least 16 weeks
