Job Description
Monzo is recruiting a Credit Model Validation Manager for its second line Credit Model Validation group, which independently checks models built by first line development teams. The job is full-time and can be done from London or remotely within the UK. The base pay is £79,000 to £93,000, plus incentive awards and benefits.
The manager would personally carry out an independent check of the models used for credit decisions in Borrowing, covering ML, decision science and net present value work. Their work confirms that each model is fit for purpose, properly governed, explainable and performing as intended. The manager would also help oversee broader credit risk models such as IFRS 9 provisioning, stress tests and economic response models.
Additional work includes checking ongoing performance against risk thresholds, running statistical analysis and challenger models where helpful, writing validation reports for committees, and strengthening the Model Risk Framework so it reflects current regulatory guidance. The post also calls for leading the use of AI tools to improve validation work.
The strongest candidate has real experience in developing or validating credit models within financial services, including scorecards, origination PD models and NPV or unit economics models. SQL and Python fluency is essential, alongside clear writing and speaking and an impact-focused outlook. The tech environment includes Google Cloud Platform, dbt, BigQuery, Python, Go and AWS, though no candidate is expected to know all of them.
