Recidiviz is hiring a full-time, remote Data Analyst to help build software tools and analyses that target the primary drivers of incarceration in the United States. This position offers an annual salary of $85,000 and is open to applicants residing anywhere within the United States, with optional office spaces available in Oakland, California and New York City. The organization collaborates with government leaders, state agencies, and community partners to decrease prison populations and foster data-backed decision-making in the criminal justice system.
This role suits early-career data professionals who possess a keen eye for detail, a collaborative mindset, and an interest in tackling complex real-world datasets. Working alongside senior analysts, the incoming team member will evaluate criminal justice information, generate visual dashboards, and assist with state-specific product rollouts. Occasional travel of about once a year to continental U.S. state partners, which may include visits to correctional facilities and parole offices, is encouraged and occasionally required.

Responsibilities
- Examine large datasets to uncover trends and insights regarding American criminal justice systems
- Conduct well-scoped analytical tasks under the guidance of senior staff and the State Engagement team
- Support software deployments across partner states by following established procedures and preparing necessary data
- Create clear and documented dashboards and visual representations utilizing current tools
- Communicate discoveries to internal colleagues and present information alongside team members to external partners
- Investigate broader industry trends to better understand how company products operate
Requirements
- At least six months of practical professional work experience cleaning, exploring, and evaluating real-world datasets, which can include internships, research, or part-time work totaling six months of full-time hours
- Working proficiency in SQL, including aggregations, window functions, and joins
- Familiarity with Python and the Pandas package for data visualization and analysis
- Strong collaboration and communication capabilities
Qualifications
- Interest in public policy or criminal justice, or prior experience handling public-sector data
- Experience using business intelligence or dashboarding platforms such as Tableau or Looker
- Familiarity with components of the company technology stack, including Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Looker, Jupyter notebooks, and Python or Pandas
