Zopa is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer for its Cloud Infrastructure group in London, which belongs to the Platform tribe alongside database administration and developer experience colleagues. The team builds the groundwork that lets engineering teams ship dependable and secure products. The post is full time and hybrid, with two to three days a week in London.
The group is shifting from running infrastructure on behalf of other teams toward a platform that engineers can use for themselves through clear self-service options. The engineer will help set the standards, safety measures and developer experience that make this possible, and will work with application engineers to understand their requirements and choose maintainable approaches.
Daily work includes designing and evolving cloud platform features, improving AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and operational practices, and strengthening observability, resilience, security and incident preparedness. The role also involves building reusable tools and taking a turn on the shared on-call schedule that covers business-critical services.
The ideal engineer has solid hands-on AWS experience running production systems, practical skills with Kubernetes or EKS, Docker, Terraform and Helm, and a strong CI/CD background, particularly with GitHub Actions. Knowledge of logging, networking, secrets management and service discovery is also sought.
Responsibilities
- Design and expand robust cloud-platform features that serve engineering teams
- Refine how AWS and Kubernetes run alongside Terraform, CI/CD, monitoring and operations patterns
- Work with engineers to grasp their needs and pick safe, sustainable approaches
- Own initiatives from first framing of the problem to delivery and review
- Lift standards for observability, resilience, security and readiness for incidents
- Build shared tools, guardrails and self-service components
- Help set platform standards across Cloud Infrastructure, database administration and developer experience
- Share the on-call rotation that keeps business-critical services running
Requirements
- Substantial hands-on AWS platform work in production environments
- Practical experience with Kubernetes or EKS, Docker, Terraform and Helm
- Strong CI/CD background, especially GitHub Actions, with an eye for reusable pipelines
- Familiarity with log management, observability, network protocols, scripting, secret storage and service discovery
- Working familiarity with both AWS and Kubernetes, plus solid programming ability
- Track record of designing platform solutions that are secure, dependable and easy to maintain
- Self-directed delivery and productive collaboration with application engineers
- Experience supporting business-critical services on an on-call rota
Qualifications
- Experience with Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus or Splunk, including SLO-driven practice
- Measured use of AI-assisted coding tools to raise quality and output
