As an AI-native organization aiming to integrate artificial intelligence deeply into both internal operations and customer-facing products, Life360 is currently hiring for a Director of AI Platforms to lead a crucial transformation. In this remote position reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer, this leader will guide the AI Platforms team through a strategic shift from supporting internal productivity tooling to powering consumer-scale artificial intelligence features for members.
This role suits an experienced engineering leader capable of shaping product development life cycles, establishing robust model access and agent runtimes, and driving organization-wide adoption. The person in this position will collaborate closely with security, privacy, and legal departments to ensure data protection and auditability are prioritized from inception. Total compensation for this full-time role includes a base salary ranging from $216,500 to $318,500 per year, supplemented by Restricted Stock Units and comprehensive health and financial benefits.
Responsibilities
- Establish the strategic roadmap for the AI Platforms team balancing internal productivity needs with upcoming product goals
- Scale and lead the engineering team through strategic hiring and ongoing talent development
- Develop and evolve shared artificial intelligence foundations including model routing, agent runtimes, model context protocol integrations, evaluations, identity management, and cost governance
- Collaborate with core teams to improve the agentic product development lifecycle encompassing environments, testing, code review, and shipment workflows
- Expand platform capabilities from internal workflows to production-grade member-facing features
- Drive internal adoption of engineering practices through paved roads, reusable components, and developer enablement
- Partner with security, privacy, and legal groups to embed safeguards and auditability into platform architecture
- Measure and report relevant outcomes such as user adoption, output quality, cost efficiency, and time to deployment
- Review system designs, unblock engineering groups, and make build versus buy decisions based on evolving tool landscapes
Requirements
- Ten or more years of engineering experience
- Five or more years of experience leading engineering teams that build platforms or infrastructure for other developers
- Hands-on background building and operating production-level artificial intelligence systems like large language model integrations, agentic workflows, retrieval systems, and evaluations
- Working knowledge of model context protocols and agent orchestration involving secure connections to internal systems
- Familiarity with production artificial intelligence inference covering serving, latency, reliability, cost management, and provider handling
- Demonstrated ability to drive new engineering practices across a large organization through influence
