Job Description
Ooma offers cloud-based communication services, including VoIP phone service for consumers, unified communications for businesses, and a smart home security product. This Director, Infrastructure Engineering role leads the group that runs the infrastructure customers rely on: physical data centers and cloud environments, Linux estates, Kubernetes, network and ISP partnerships, storage, observability tooling, and network security. The director leads roughly 12 engineers, develops team leads, drives reliability and operational discipline, manages capital and operating budgets, and looks for cost and vendor savings. Flexible options are offered: remote anywhere in the US, a hybrid arrangement, or onsite at the Sunnyvale, California headquarters, in line with US business hours.
The director acts for sibling teams in Network Operations as an internal supplier, building and running the hardware platforms those teams use to deploy products. The role also brings infrastructure into product design early, setting service-level commitments, speed goals, growth readiness, and capacity forecasts with Product and Development. Other responsibilities include setting security policy for data centers and cloud, coordinating patch and OS upgrade schedules, working with audit and compliance on SOX and SOC requirements, and presenting infrastructure strategy to executives. The director is accountable for round-the-clock on-call escalation, building a model that holds the organization responsible for outcomes without requiring the director on every incident bridge.
The posting also asks for championing automation and standardization, a view on where AI can improve infrastructure operations, representing infrastructure to customers and partners, and leading infrastructure integration for future acquisitions.
