Job Description
Ooma is seeking a Director of Infrastructure Engineering to lead a group of roughly 12 engineers who keep the systems behind its services running. The company sells communication software and hardware to small businesses, larger enterprises and households, including a highly rated residential phone service and a smart home security product. The director's remit covers physical data centers, cloud environments, Linux fleets, container orchestration, networking, storage, logs and metrics, and network security.
The director would build and guide the organization, grow future team leads, and push for operational excellence and dependable service. Financial stewardship is significant: controlling capital and operating budgets, handling suppliers and negotiating agreements, and finding ways to lower spending without sacrificing uptime. The group also serves Network Operations as an internal provider, supplying the hardware platforms those teams use to ship products. Early involvement in product design is expected, with attention to service-level targets, throughput, growth capacity and forecasting.
Additional duties include shaping security policy and standards for data centers and cloud, working with audit and compliance groups on SOX and SOC obligations, carrying strategy and multi-year plans to executives, and running the round-the-clock escalation path. The director would act as the infrastructure voice for customers and partners, and would lead infrastructure integration when the company acquires other businesses.
Applicants should have 10 or more years in infrastructure engineering or operations, at least five of them leading people, and genuine technical depth across Linux, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, networking and storage. Proven control of budgets, suppliers and contracts is essential. Past experience with a merger integration or a large reorganization is highly regarded, and a telecom, VoIP or carrier-grade reliability background is strongly preferred. The job may be done fully remotely across the US, in a hybrid arrangement, or onsite at Sunnyvale, California, aligned with US business hours, with occasional travel. The posted base salary for US candidates is $170,000 to $250,000, with potential bonus and RSU eligibility.
