Job Description

CookUnity operates a platform and meal delivery service connecting consumers with chefs, producing fifty million meals annually while expanding into an ever-innovating marketplace. The organization is seeking a Director, Labeling and Nutrition Compliance to oversee compliance programs across meals, ingredient data, product claims, and customer-facing materials. This hands-on position requires strong technical judgment and cross-functional leadership to govern the complete source-to-label process.

The person in this role will own third-party laboratory validation, establish technical acceptance criteria, manage the content release workflow, and withhold approval when supporting evidence falls short. Within the first ninety days, the director will set up a risk-ranked review baseline, verify supplier and market substitutions, and demonstrate a controlled release pilot that reconciles labels with the website. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with various internal teams including Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Culinary, Supply Chain, Nutrition and Standards, Legal, and Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the labeling and nutrition compliance program in partnership with Nutrition and Standards
  • Manage the create, review, approve, and distribute labeling process, governance, and consolidated KPI dashboard
  • Define regulatory and technical requirements for ingredient master data owned by Supply Chain Operations
  • Oversee third-party laboratory validation, risk-based representative sampling, and discrepancy investigations
  • Approve product, nutrition, standards, ingredient, and dietary claims prior to publication
  • Manage the compliance impact of changes to suppliers, ingredients, recipes, processes, portions, packaging, and systems
  • Establish technical acceptance criteria for labeling and data systems in partnership with Engineering
  • Verify consistency between approved label master data and customer-facing digital channels
  • Exercise authority to hold or reject nonconforming label and content releases
  • Maintain inspection-ready records and train cross-functional teams on labeling requirements

Requirements

  • Deep, practical experience in food-labeling regulations, nutrition, and standards compliance
  • Hands-on technical review experience with packaged food labels, ingredient and allergen declarations, nutrition calculations, and claim substantiation
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. FDA food-labeling requirements and ability to determine when USDA FSIS or other market rules apply
  • Experience connecting supplier specifications, ingredient databases, formulations, recipe systems, nutrition analysis, artwork, and production execution
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional programs, resolving ownership gaps, and implementing change without direct reporting authority
  • Clear written communication, careful documentation, and the ability to hold a release when evidence is incomplete

Qualifications

  • Degree in food science, nutrition, regulatory science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in multi-site prepared meal operations
  • Familiarity with recipe-management systems and supplier-data platforms
  • Familiarity with Canadian food-labeling requirements
  • Registered Dietitian credentials
  • Qualified expertise in clinical standards and medically tailored meal criteria
