Job Description
Flex is creating an artificial intelligence-driven private banking platform tailored for business owners to handle banking, credit, payments, personal finance, and financial operations through a unified system. The leadership team is currently searching for a Director of Fraud Risk Management to join the risk division and report directly to the Chief Risk Officer.
This position takes complete ownership of fraud risk management across the organization's credit card and demand deposit account portfolios for both consumer and small business sectors. The professional selected will manage the full lifecycle from pre-acquisition through post-disbursement, designing detection frameworks, monitoring identity verification layers, analyzing authorization patterns, and overseeing dispute and recovery processes. The role requires partnering closely with credit, legal, compliance, financial crimes, operations, and product teams to integrate fraud visibility directly into product design.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end fraud risk across credit card and demand deposit account portfolios spanning consumer and small business segments
- Monitor application fraud patterns, identity signal quality, document authenticity rates, and synthetic identity indicators during acquisition and onboarding
- Oversee match rates, challenge rates, and step-up conversion across KYC and KYB verification layers in collaboration with compliance
- Track behavioral signals associated with intentional default including spend acceleration, balance buildup, cash advance abuse, and bust-out trends
- Identify unauthorized transaction patterns, account takeover indicators, card-not-present abuse, and compromised credential signals
- Build detection frameworks for synthetic identities, including thin-file manipulation and fabricated entity structures
- Monitor demand deposit account specific threats such as ACH manipulation, payee substitution, unauthorized external transfers, and check fraud
- Analyze real-time and near-real-time authorization velocity anomalies, geographic inconsistencies, merchant category abuse, and card testing signals
- Oversee dispute resolution patterns, chargeback abuse, friendly fraud, and recovery rates by fraud type
- Lead periodic fraud risk reviews, present findings to risk committees, and develop fraud segmentation by type, channel, product, and obligor
- Model exposure under elevated attack conditions through scenario analysis and stress testing
- Establish detection standards, taxonomy, and measurement frameworks as the product portfolio scales
Requirements
- Possess seven to fifteen years of hands-on fraud risk management experience with direct ownership of detection and loss management across consumer and small business products
- Demonstrate subject expertise across first-party, third-party, and synthetic identity fraud typologies
- Maintain fluency in the fraud signal stack including device fingerprinting, IP intelligence, identity graph analysis, behavioral biometrics, and machine learning anomaly detection
- Understand demand deposit account fraud vectors such as ACH origination and return abuse, check fraud, and Regulation E dispute dynamics
- Show analytical self-sufficiency through proficiency in SQL and Python or R for building detection logic, cohort analysis, and loss attribution
- Understand the regulatory and compliance overlay on fraud including SAR thresholds, Regulation E, FCRA, and BSA/AML red flags
