Job Description

Launch Potato is a profitable, bootstrapped discovery and conversion enterprise operating across finance, travel, and entertainment through consumer brands such as FinanceBuzz, All About Cookies, and OnlyInYourState. Reaching tens of millions of monthly users, the organization maintains a South Florida headquarters alongside a remote-first workforce distributed across 18 countries. With a team size of approximately 200 personnel, the company seeks a Director of People to lead performance management, total rewards, and compliance functions.

This is a player-coach leadership position reporting directly to the SVP of Talent. The incoming director will inherit an established performance management framework—including leveling hierarchies, calibration processes, and rating scales—and determine what elements to maintain or modify as the enterprise scales. The mandate centers on immediate operational ownership, leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to drive lean operations, and directly supporting roughly three dozen front-line managers.

Ideal candidates possess prior Director-level people leadership experience, a strong background managing end-to-end performance cycles for organizations of 150 employees or more, and demonstrated expertise in compensation benchmarking and multi-state compliance. The role suits professionals who prioritize direct feedback, operational impact, and process durability over constant annual redesigns.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end mid-year and annual performance cycles, including timeline creation, communication, execution, and post-cycle retrospectives
  • Design salary bands, establish benchmarking methodologies, and oversee benefit renewals and annual compensation cycles
  • Handle multi-state registration, I-9 compliance, employee handbooks, job classifications, and job postings while resolving existing backlogs
  • Prepare front-line managers for complex performance and calibration discussions through playbooks and self-service resources
  • Build and improve technical tooling and automation to streamline human resources processes without losing substance
  • Directly manage and develop two team members: a Human Resources Business Partner and a Total Rewards and People Analytics lead

Requirements

  • Experience owning a complete performance cycle end-to-end more than once at organizations with 150 or more employees
  • Demonstrated history of owning compensation and benefits, including salary band design, benchmarking methodologies, and benefits renewals
  • Extensive experience managing standing HR compliance duties such as multi-state registration, I-9 verification, handbooks, and worker classifications
  • Proven track record of building people systems and automated processes that outlasted the tenure of the builder and achieved high team adoption
  • Direct experience helping scale a company's headcount or revenue to a materially larger stage more than once
  • Clear examples of coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to achieve extraordinary results in a player-coach capacity

Qualifications

  • Formulated critical opinions regarding common pitfalls in performance management supported by specific examples of implemented changes
  • Demonstrated ability to distinguish between process failures and manager-capability issues to apply the correct fix
  • Willingness to voice challenging perspectives during calibration sessions
