Job Description

The Director of Production position at Nutrafol is a full-time, fully remote role focused on how the company's photography, casting and film work is planned, funded and delivered. The Creative team inside Nutrafol makes brand campaigns, product photos, paid performance ads, social posts and retail materials, and this director oversees the production side of all that output.

The job starts as a senior individual contributor role, so there are no direct reports at first. Influence is exercised through outside partners such as production firms, ad agencies, photo and film specialists and freelancers, along with close work with internal creatives. The person in this role is expected to build the production function from scratch, define its standards and shape how it grows.

Day to day, the director manages budgets for the full year and for each project, tracks spending, and reports to the senior vice president of creative. The role covers sourcing and vetting partners, running bids and negotiating rates, and coordinating with legal and procurement on contracts and payments. It also includes planning the production schedule, creating repeatable workflows and templates, and weighing newer approaches like AI-driven shooting and editing methods.

Protecting the brand is a core part of the job. The director keeps track of the permissions that talent, models and influencers grant for their appearances, along with release forms and renewal dates, and maintains a log of each asset's permitted channels and run period. Productions must meet union agreements, location permit requirements, insurance terms and on-set safety practices. Because the company sells a health and wellness product, claims, testimonials and transformation imagery need early review with legal and regulatory colleagues.

The posting describes an ideal candidate with a decade or more of production work, including at least three years at senior producer, production head or director level. Background at a company's internal brand group, an ad agency or a production house is valued, and a mix of these is considered ideal. Budget management skills are key, and the ideal person has run an annual production budget in the millions of dollars.

Responsibilities

  • Direct photo, video and content shoots for brand work, paid performance, social, online store and retail
  • Guide each project from the initial brief through bids, preparation, on-set direction and editing to final delivered files
  • Serve as lead producer on major shoots and confirm that every other shoot is staffed with one
  • Build and track the annual production budget along with a separate budget for each project
  • Recruit and manage a network of production firms, agencies, directors, photographers, editors and freelance crew
  • Negotiate bids and rates, and manage contracts that deliver strong value without sacrificing quality
  • Coordinate with legal and procurement on statements of work, vendor agreements and payments
  • Plan the content schedule for all creative output, balancing company demand with team capacity
  • Build reusable workflows, templates and standards, including production handbooks, call sheets, approval stages and delivery specs
  • Find ways to produce more content with less effort, for example by shooting for several channels at once or building an in-house studio
  • Assess whether AI-driven methods for shooting and editing would speed up or improve the work
  • Track the permissions talent, models and influencers grant for their appearances, with release forms and renewal dates
  • Keep records of each asset's permitted channels and how long it can run
  • Ensure shoots comply with union agreements, location permits, insurance terms and on-set safety practices
  • Involve legal and regulatory colleagues at the start so that health-related claims and testimonials are reviewed in time
  • Oversee how finished assets are labeled, stored and organized in the digital asset library
  • Bring feasibility, cost and timing into concept development early
  • Collaborate with creative leads, art leads, design and copy staff, and brand groups

Requirements

  • A decade or more of production work, including at least three years at senior producer, production head or director level
  • Work history spanning an internal brand department, an ad agency or a production firm, with a mix considered ideal
  • Track record of running big photo and video campaigns, along with heavy-volume output for paid and organic social media
  • Budget management skills, including experience running an annual production budget in the millions of dollars
  • Established ties with outside production teams, crew and performers, plus skill at pairing the best fit to every job
  • Familiarity with talent contracts, rights to use material, labor union regulations and insurance for shoots
  • Experience establishing production routines from scratch
  • Able to stay composed and explain shifting plans to creatives, executives and suppliers during a shoot
  • Ability to get things done through influence, without direct reports

Qualifications

  • Background in beauty, wellness, consumer packaged goods or a similar regulated field where legal sign-off on claims and transformation imagery is required
  • Prior work leading an internal studio operation
  • Hands-on use of project and asset-library software such as Airtable, Asana, Monday, Bynder or Frame.io
  • Track record of expanding a production group as the workload increases
