In this position, the professional will spearhead the creation, planning, and deployment of automation tools across the enterprise's distribution, warehouse, compounding, and fulfillment facilities. Operating out of Romeoville, Illinois, and reporting directly to the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations, the chosen candidate will coordinate closely with multiple departments—including Supply Chain, Technology, Facilities, Finance, and Quality—alongside external equipment manufacturers to build efficient and compliant systems.
This opportunity is well-suited for a strategic operations leader who enjoys resolving intricate logistical hurdles and championing continuous improvement initiatives to propel the organization's expansion. The position necessitates roughly ten to fifteen percent travel to visit other pharmacy sites. Responsibilities encompass overseeing capital projects from conception through launch, establishing key performance metrics, and ensuring all workflows comply with rigorous regulatory standards such as FDA, USP, OSHA, and state Board of Pharmacy requirements.
Responsibilities
- Direct the design and execution of automation strategies for pharmacy fulfillment, packaging, shipping, compounding, and warehouse operations
- Discover, assess, and integrate machinery that enhances safety, output capacity, quality, and scalability
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to outline future workflows and maximize performance
- Manage capital automation initiatives from inception to installation, commissioning, and operational readiness, covering budgeting and vendor oversight
- Work alongside design and engineering personnel for new facility constructions, renovations, and expansions
- Build tracking dashboards to monitor productivity, inventory levels, equipment usage, fulfillment accuracy, and financial returns
- Drive continuous improvement models such as Lean and Six Sigma to eliminate waste and standardize best practices
- Guarantee adherence to internal quality guidelines alongside FDA, USP, OSHA, and state Board of Pharmacy regulations
- Draft and maintain standard operating procedures and workflows for all automation systems across sites
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional background managing automation, manufacturing, industrial engineering, fulfillment, warehouse, or pharmacy operations projects
- Demonstrated track record of directing large-scale capital or automation initiatives from start to finish
- Familiarity with robotics, automated material handling, warehouse automation, pharmaceutical manufacturing machinery, or packaging systems
- Deep understanding of process optimization, value stream mapping, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing principles
- Proven capacity to build capital budgets, financial business cases, and return on investment analyses
- Superior cross-functional leadership, executive communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Capability to drive organizational change within high-growth and fast-paced environments
- Bachelor degree in a related technical discipline, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or Engineering
Qualifications
- Professional background supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing, sterile or non-sterile compounding, healthcare distribution, or pharmacy fulfillment
