Red Cell Partners seeks a Director of Production and Infrastructure Engineering to build and oversee a technical organization spanning DevOps, SRE, DevEx, MLOps, and support functions. Operating in practice areas like healthcare, cyber, and national security, the firm is an incubation company developing scalable technology solutions. This position suits an adaptable engineering leader who can structure ambiguous work, guide technical decisions, and manage cross-functional teams.
The person in this role will balance strategic planning with hands-on technical guidance, including design and code reviews, technical investigations, and delivery oversight. Responsibilities include managing hiring and career development, driving release and production readiness, improving cloud infrastructure and automation, and partnering with product, platform, and security teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage hiring, onboarding, career development, coaching, and performance for engineering staff.
- Set shared priorities and handle delivery across infrastructure, reliability, developer experience, and application delivery.
- Lead sprint planning, capacity planning, backlog grooming, and delivery reviews.
- Participate in design and code reviews, technical investigations, and troubleshooting sessions.
- Establish release readiness criteria, change management processes, and end-to-end validation.
- Improve cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, automation, observability, and incident response workflows.
- Lead a dedicated cross-functional support team consisting of full-stack engineers, DevOps specialists, and technical program managers.
- Collaborate with Product, Platform, Applied AI, and Security/GRC teams on delivery priorities and operational requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years of direct engineering people management.
- Experience leading teams across multiple technical specialties and varying levels of seniority.
- Technical background in at least one major cloud platform such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, covering Kubernetes, networking, and production operations.
- Practical experience with Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD, and Git-based development workflows.
- Background in building and shipping production software across backend services, APIs, and data stores.
- Experience managing production support, incident response, release management, and automated testing.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, make timely decisions, and handle internal or external customer escalations.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with MLOps, model serving, or operating AI/ML and agent workloads.
- Experience supporting customer-managed environments, multiple cloud providers, or complex enterprise deployments.
- Background working in national security, federal, regulated, or security-sensitive environments.
- Experience scaling an engineering organization or building a new operating function in a fast-changing company.
