The manager manages and grows a group of full-stack developers while staying hands-on, with at least half of the time spent on engineering work.
The job includes shaping architecture and technical direction alongside the CTO, reviewing code, hiring, and delivering the platform, which runs on Ruby on Rails, React and PostgreSQL, with infrastructure moving from Heroku to AWS.
Responsibilities
- Coach, mentor and support full-stack engineers through regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and career development
- Take part in architecture decisions and help steer the platform's technical direction
- Design and build scalable software, and carry out thoughtful code reviews
- Contribute to iteration planning, backlog grooming and sprints, and promote automated tests
Requirements
- Two-plus years of experience leading software engineering teams
- Five or more years of software development experience
- Ruby on Rails and React skills are highly valued
- Agile delivery background and experience working alongside product and design colleagues
Qualifications
- A computing, engineering or similar degree helps, but it is not required
- Familiarity with test tooling and release automation
