Job Description
Foodics is constructing an in-house ERP platform that will serve as the authoritative record beneath the merchant operations running on Foodics. The posting is candid that this is an unusual management job: three engineers currently make up the team, so there is nobody to manage yet. Early on, the work is primarily building core platform code and integrations with inventory, payments and the point-of-sale system, side by side with the existing engineers.
The longer-term objective is to assemble the team around the product once it becomes a real line of business. That means recruiting, defining roles, shaping structure and process, and developing current engineers into people who can run parts of the system alone. The holder makes architecture calls that will shape the platform for years, sets review and testing norms, determines how AI tools are used, and works with the product manager and domain specialists to convert business needs into software.
Candidates should have led engineers before while still writing code, understand double-entry accounting and period close, and be able to work largely within GMT+3 hours. The role is full-time and on-site, and no salary is stated.
Responsibilities
- Contribute production code as an engineer, not as a manager who only occasionally touches tickets
- Own significant areas such as core modules, the transaction layer, compliance and integrations
- Take architectural decisions and answer for their long-run outcomes
- Establish norms for code review, testing and where AI tools can be trusted
- Specify hiring needs, run interviews and make final hiring calls
- Grow existing engineers so they can run parts of the platform on their own
- Bring in process when it becomes necessary, not earlier
- Guide the product through handover into the core business while keeping the team together
Requirements
- Seven-plus years in engineering, with leadership time as an engineering manager, tech lead or founding engineer
- Still coding hands-on in your current role
- Substantial background building ERP or accounting software, including double-entry logic and period close
- Full-stack capability from database design through to the interface
- Daily use of AI agents and LLM tools, with judgment about their reliability
- Track record building something from scratch in a small group with fuzzy requirements and tight deadlines
- Motivated by both building the product and growing the team
- Able to cover GMT+3 working hours for most of the day
Qualifications
- Has built or run a bookkeeping core, double-entry engine or high-volume transaction system
- Background across fintech, bank operations, payments or finance services
- Has hired and scaled an engineering group from its first handful of people
- Knows ERP products such as ERPNext, Odoo, NetSuite or SAP
- Experience with ZATCA e-invoicing or comparable regulatory projects in the region
Core Skills
Benefits
- Pay package with bonuses and possible share participation
- Ongoing training and a yearly learning allowance
- Independence, mentoring and demanding goals
- Colleagues from 30-plus nationalities across 14 countries
