Job Description

Zopa is recruiting an Engineering Manager for its London engineering organisation. The post is full time and hybrid. The posting gives two different figures for office attendance: three days as a minimum in one place, and two to three days in another. The exact expectation should be confirmed during the process.

Managers in this role lead engineers building products that millions of customers rely on. They help their teams raise the bar on how work is delivered as well as what ships, working with Product and others to look ahead, weigh competing demands and deal with difficulties early. The posting highlights managers who spot problems without waiting to be told, using customer comments and service metrics to improve quality and reliability.

When direction is unclear, the manager makes decisions, sets priorities and keeps the team aligned. Much of the work relies on influence rather than formal authority, building alliances across functions and changing how groups think about shared goals. Engineering teams sit within several product groups, such as Operational Efficiency, Product Enablement and Current Account, each with its own challenges.

The ideal candidate has managed people for two-plus years, takes ownership of results, and disagrees constructively. They support engineers' growth, have helped build and run live production systems, and communicate clearly, explaining the reasoning behind decisions to engineers and stakeholders alike.

  • Two-plus years in a leadership position as a seasoned engineering manager
  • Prior experience managing people
  • Takes responsibility for results, works comfortably with uncertainty and drives problems to resolution

  • Learns from setbacks and openly examines what went wrong
  • Track record of helping engineers grow, perform and advance in their careers
  • Has helped build, operate and improve live production systems
