Discord is hiring an Engineering Manager for its Platform Security team on a remote basis, with an option to work from the San Francisco office for candidates living in the Bay Area. The Platform Security group safeguards the infrastructure that powers Discord, creating straightforward methods for secure operations.
This position involves directing a cross-functional squad of software engineers to establish security priorities across engineering functions. The selected manager will guide the creation of identity systems, deployment pipelines, and cloud security baselines. Ideal candidates enjoy owning technically intricate initiatives and want to advance user privacy and protection.
Responsibilities
- Shape security strategy across the entire company
- Lead an autonomous team of software engineers
- Establish secure baselines for cloud environments
- Handle infrastructure vulnerabilities while aiding a large development organization
- Secure software supply chains from development environments through production
- Build and operate machine and human identity and access management systems
- Provide guidance on risk evaluations, threat models, and code reviews
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of experience as a people manager leading a team of at least three security software engineers
- Minimum of three years of experience securing systems utilized by millions of users
- Experience writing roadmaps independently
- Experience building and securing cloud environments such as GCP, Cloudflare, and AWS
- Ability to reason about the security of complex systems
- Experience writing software in general-purpose languages like Python, Typescript, and Rust
- Experience developing with agentic AI and knowledge of AI security practices
Qualifications
- Understanding of modern authentication and authorization concepts like RBAC, OAuth, Zero Trust architectures, and mTLS
- Familiarity with build and CI/CD technologies such as Terraform, Bazel, Buildkite, and Spacelift
- Experience defining and orchestrating containers and serverless workloads
- Experience operating security platforms such as Wiz
