Job Description
Tubi is a free streaming platform with over 100 million monthly active viewers. Founded in 2014 and based in San Francisco, it belongs to Tubi Media Group, which is part of Fox Corporation. The catalog spans classic Hollywood films, TV series, creator-driven programming and original shows. This Engineering Manager role is located in San Francisco, with hybrid arrangements permitted under company policy.
The manager leads and develops a group of backend developers, ranging from senior to associate level. Responsibilities include conducting performance reviews, planning careers, hiring, setting standards for development and code review, and building a healthy approach to on-call duty and production ownership.
Technical ownership covers high-performance customer-facing APIs that power features like the home screen, search, autoplay and title pages. The manager oversees distributed services hosted on Kubernetes, the API gateway, traffic management, data cleanup, and communication between services over gRPC and REST. Additional areas include metadata systems, licensing and availability logic, third-party feed ingestion, and backend support for many device and platform partners.
The role is accountable for scale, uptime, observability and security, and for planning failover and disaster recovery so releases do not cause outages. The manager directs backend readiness for major live events and traffic peaks, collaborates with Product, Legal, machine-learning and client-platform teams, and establishes guidelines for responsible use of AI development assistants.
