Job Description
Snorkel AI is a frontier AI data lab originating from the Stanford AI Lab in 2019 that builds custom solutions, datasets, benchmarks, and evaluations for real-world AI systems in partnership with major AI labs and enterprises. The organization is seeking a Finance Manager, DaaS to act as a dedicated finance partner to the Data-as-a-Service business unit while reporting to the Senior Director of Finance.
This role suits an analytical finance professional who can bridge financial data and strategic decision-making across pricing, revenue forecasting, cost of delivery, and ARR. The position requires collaborating closely with operating groups such as Sales, Delivery Ops, RevOps, and Deal Desk to establish robust financial frameworks, capacity models, and deal economics.
Key duties span maintaining revenue models and weekly forecasts, managing delivery capacity constraints, evaluating customer and product profitability, and driving operational efficiencies. The ideal candidate will combine rigorous spreadsheet and SQL capabilities with executive communication skills, operating comfortably amidst ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the Data-as-a-Service revenue model encompassing bookings, acceptance-based revenue, and ARR by deal.
- Partner with RevOps on weekly revenue and ARR forecasting while producing summaries and decks for leadership.
- Reconcile field sales calls with a finance-centric view to quantify coverage, swing deals, and execution risks.
- Contribute revenue, delivery cost, margin, and headcount inputs to the annual operating plan and long-range plan.
- Collaborate with Accounting on revenue recognition inputs alongside COGS and margin actuals.
- Run and maintain the delivery capacity model alongside Delivery Ops to track utilization, project mix, and headcount costs.
- Evaluate deal models and pricing templates for accuracy and margin targets in conjunction with Deal Desk.
- Analyze customer, product, and project profitability tied directly to generated revenue.
- Automate recurring manual spreadsheet models into scalable and auditable workflows.
- Contribute to board and investor materials for the Data-as-a-Service division.
Requirements
- Five to eight years of professional experience in FP&A, business or product finance, deal desk, or strategic finance.
- At least two years of experience working at a high-growth technology company.
- Hands-on background managing a revenue forecast as well as a unit-economics or pricing model.
- Strong understanding of gross margin versus contribution margin, cost-to-serve, and pricing dynamics.
- Practical knowledge of services or labor-based delivery economics including utilization rates and headcount per project.
- Expert-level spreadsheet modeling skills using Excel or Google Sheets.
- Working knowledge of SQL with the ability to pull data from CRMs and data warehouses.
- Demonstrated capability in concise executive communication and writing brief summaries for leadership.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and making data-informed decisions with incomplete initial information.
- Process-driven mindset capable of identifying friction points and driving process adoption.
- Bachelor degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field.
Qualifications
- Prior background in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data services, marketplaces with resale economics, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ARR-style metrics and acceptance-based revenue recognition.
- Experience producing board materials, investor presentations, and fundraise data rooms.
- Familiarity using AI tools and light scripting languages such as Python to automate analysis.
- Experience with business intelligence tools such as Looker or Tableau, or planning applications like Adaptive or Pigment.
- Background working at a top consulting firm, investment bank, or finance-rotation program.
Core Skills
Benefits
- Participation in a rapidly scaling company offering a mix of operational stability and growth
- Opportunities to shape strategic priorities and influence key organizational initiatives
- Support for professional development, career growth, and cross-functional learning
