Job Description

SOFTGAMES seeks a Freelance Sound Designer for project-based work to compose the music and audio effects for a new, unannounced casual game. This remote-first position involves creating an initial audio package that features a soundtrack and a core sound effects library for an island-themed game released on mobile, web, and Facebook Instant Games. Subsequent packages may be commissioned separately.

The ideal professional possesses a portfolio demonstrating shipped games with both original music and sound effects, alongside familiarity with casual, mobile, or web gaming formats. Responsibilities include building a warm, upbeat sonic identity, delivering seamless gameplay loops, producing progression-scaled feedback sounds, and providing game-ready files that meet strict memory and file-size budgets.

SOFTGAMES is an instant gaming company that develops social games playable across various devices, employing a global remote team of approximately 100 individuals. The company partners with major platforms like Facebook and Samsung, and is recognized for titles such as Bubble Shooter Pro. All created materials require a full buyout of exclusive, worldwide usage rights, and candidates must sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Compose a main theme, seamless gameplay loops for board and building areas, and short stingers for level-ups, completions, and story moments
  • Build a core sound effects library covering UI, menus, item interactions, rewards, building, decorating, customer orders, and ambience
  • Design feedback sounds that scale with player progression and create variations for frequent sounds
  • Deliver clean loops, consistent loudness, clear naming, and web- and mobile-optimized compression formats
  • Participate in agreed revision rounds based on briefs, references, and in-game reviews
  • Disclose any use of AI tools and ensure all work is original without uncleared samples

Requirements

  • Portfolio of shipped games with self-created music and sound effects
  • Experience with casual, mobile, or web games
  • Proven delivery of game-ready audio with seamless loops, variations, and consistent loudness
  • Ability to work within file-size and memory budgets for compressed web and mobile formats
  • Proficiency in turning written briefs and reference tracks into finished audio within revision deadlines
  • Clear written English and reliable asynchronous communication
  • Agreement to sign an NDA and grant exclusive, unlimited, worldwide usage rights

Qualifications

  • Experience with merge, match-3, decoration, or other casual puzzle games
  • Background delivering audio for Unity, Unity WebGL, or HTML5 games
  • Experience creating adaptive or layered music responsive to game states
  • Ability to produce short character vocalizations or non-verbal voice sounds
  • Experience with audio for live-ops content including seasonal events
  • Familiarity with Facebook Instant Games or browser audio constraints such as autoplay rules
