Job Description
This remote role carries the title Fullstack Data Scientist and is described as a freelancer position with a generative AI focus. It starts with discovery and solution design, translating business problems into plans that may call for choosing a model, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, agents or guardrails. The person then builds finished GenAI applications, covering data intake, retrieval, orchestration, backend services and a basic interface where needed.
Technical scope includes building RAG systems with vector stores, hybrid search, rerankers and evaluation tooling, selecting models and prompt approaches, and fine-tuning text, code and multimodal models through LoRA, QLoRA or supervised training. A/B experiments are part of the process. Safety and governance also matter, covering input and output filtering, personal data handling, audit trails and human review when needed. In practice, the person works alongside data engineers and product owners, plus developers, and passes on GenAI design patterns and shared components to colleagues.
The posting asks for six or more years in data science or AI engineering, with at least four years of production Python AI work and two years of production LLM work, ideally built on RAG. Hands-on use of an orchestration library such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or LangGraph is needed, along with experience designing or running MCP servers or clients for agents. Required skills also include evaluation, validation and guardrail know-how for LLMs, cloud familiarity with Azure, GCP or AWS, and solid pipeline and container deployment experience.
Responsibilities
- Drive discovery and solution architecture for generative AI projects
- Develop complete generative AI apps, from ingestion through backend APIs
- Architect retrieval-augmented pipelines using vector stores, mixed keyword-semantic search and re-ranking
- Select models and develop prompt strategies
- Fine-tune text, code and multimodal models with LoRA, QLoRA or supervised training
- Implement safety controls, personal data handling and audit logging
- Partner with engineers, product owners and developers on scalable designs
- Gather technical requirements and estimate work
- Mentor colleagues and contribute reusable libraries and templates
- Run proofs of concept on new models and frameworks
Requirements
- Six or more years in data science or AI engineering
- At least four years of production Python AI development
- At least two years of production LLM work, preferably RAG
- Knowledge of LLMs, chatbots, AI agents and retrieval mechanisms
- Grasp of how LLM evaluators, validators and guardrails work
- Hands-on work with LangChain, LlamaIndex, LangGraph or similar
- Background building or running MCP servers and clients for agent systems
- Strong Python skills, including packaging and testing
- Working knowledge of ML concepts and model lifecycle
- Able to collaborate with both technical and business colleagues
- Fluent English for explaining technical topics
Qualifications
- ML algorithm and data pipeline work in Python
- Pipeline tooling experience with Azure DevOps or similar CI platforms
- Productionizing ML on Spark, Databricks, Docker or Kubernetes
- Agentic AI frameworks or spec-driven workflows
- Azure preferred; GCP or AWS also considered
