Job Description
ID5 is hiring a General Counsel to serve as the most senior legal officer in the company. ID5 provides identity infrastructure for digital advertising, helping publishers, platforms and brands reach audiences in ways that respect privacy rules. After acquiring TrueData, the company runs entities in both the UK and the US, and its staff are spread across many countries. The job is remote-first and reports directly to the CEO and co-founder, with standing access to the board.
The General Counsel sets legal and enterprise risk strategy and gives the final legal sign-off. The role advises the CEO, founders and board with options that are clear enough to decide on, and leads an in-house team together with specialist outside firms. The commercial work covers the contract framework for customer, partner and product agreements, including order forms, data processing agreements and NDAs, and improving templates and approval rules so that routine deals close quickly.
The job also covers corporate development, such as partnerships, investments, acquisitions and integrations, plus the governance and records that support them. The General Counsel gives senior advice on privacy and data protection under GDPR, the UK GDPR, US state privacy statutes and consent frameworks. The role oversees significant disputes and intellectual property risk, works with outside advisers on strategy, and manages group entities, board papers, delegated authority and insurance.
The position also calls for building a scalable legal function: developing the in-house team, clarifying which matters belong to legal and which to the business, and managing the legal budget and panel of outside firms.
Suitable applicants will have made senior legal calls in-house, or worked one step below that level, and be admitted to practise in a relevant place such as the US or UK. Experience from adtech, identity, data platforms, privacy tech or comparable enterprise software is expected. Familiarity with IAB consent frameworks, data marketplaces or data-broker rules, and experience integrating an acquisition across borders, are advantages.

- Manage group entities, board materials, delegated authority, insurance and cross-border structure
- Build and lead the in-house legal team, manage the budget and oversee the outside counsel panel
- Define which legal tasks sit with counsel and which sit with the business, and sharpen how legal work gets done
Requirements
- General Counsel-level accountability, gained as the senior in-house legal decision-maker or one level below

- Confidence advising founders, executives and boards
- Ability to direct specialists while keeping the final recommendation in-house
- Experience developing lawyers and building guardrails across a distributed organisation
- Qualified lawyer with current admission to practise in the UK, the US or another fitting jurisdiction
