Job Description

Gather AI seeks a Hardware Deployment Project Manager to oversee the physical equipment side of its warehouse intelligence platform, which utilizes autonomous drones and material handling equipment attachments to digitize manual inventory workflows. In this remote position with required travel, the individual will act as the central link between engineering, purchasing, field operations, and customer implementation teams to ensure all deployment hardware is prepared on schedule.

The person in this role will manage deployment readiness by organizing timelines, kit lists, component statuses, shipping details, and site prerequisites. Responsibilities also include leading the return merchandise authorization (RMA) process, managing tier-2 hardware escalations, maintaining configuration controls and bills of materials (BOMs), and establishing formal documentation workflows. The professional will additionally coordinate technician schedules, plan development builds, communicate demand plans to purchasing, and travel for on-site installation support approximately one week per month in Pittsburgh or at active customer deployment locations.

Ideal candidates bring demonstrated experience overseeing end-to-end hardware readiness for deployments or new product introductions, managing bills of materials and configuration systems, interpreting technical drawings and schematics, and resolving field escalations. Familiarity with warehouse environments, robotics deployments, supplier management, and document control practices are considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Manage hardware readiness for each customer deployment including building schedules, kits, parts status, shipping, and site prerequisites
  • Serve as the hardware liaison lead on site for installations and go-lives before handing off to field operations
  • Manage tier-2 hardware escalations by triaging issues, routing them to the appropriate technician or engineer, and ensuring resolution
  • Oversee the return merchandise authorization (RMA) workflow covering intake, disposition, failure analysis coordination, and trend reporting
  • Maintain bill of materials (BOM) accuracy and configuration management across all hardware programs with revision control and traceability
  • Develop and document internal processes including readiness checklists, configuration control, and RMA procedures
  • Coordinate development builds, test assets, and technician schedules while translating field findings into engineering action
  • Provide purchasing with a clear demand plan and flag single-source or long-lead risks early

Requirements

  • Experience managing hardware readiness for deployments, production launches, or new product introduction builds end-to-end
  • Experience maintaining records of built and implemented hardware such as bills of materials, revisions, configurations, change control, or RMA processes
  • Ability to read assembly and part drawings, electrical schematics, and harness pinouts, alongside hands-on troubleshooting capability
  • Ability to manage a field escalation from initial report to final resolution
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the agility to adapt quickly to plan changes

Qualifications

  • Experience working in warehouse, material handling, or forklift environments
  • Experience with robotics or autonomous-vehicle deployments
  • Background coordinating with suppliers or contract manufacturers regarding engineering change orders or recurring defects
  • Familiarity with Document Control, Good Documentation Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Proximity to the Eastern time zone
