Job Description

Nium is seeking a Head of Compliance - Platforms to join the company as a senior compliance partner for its Platforms business line. Nium operates as a global provider of real-time, cross-border payment infrastructure, spanning multiple currencies, markets, and disbursement channels. In this full-time role, the successful candidate will work closely with commercial, product, legal, financial crime, and country compliance teams to support enterprise agreements, payment networks, and complex multi-tiered business models.

This position focuses heavily on commercial compliance strategy, helping structure deals, evaluating risk in platform and marketplace setups, and enabling responsible business growth. While the role does not directly manage regulatory relationships or licenses, it requires applying deep knowledge of global payments regulations, anti-money laundering frameworks, and partner due diligence to guide go-to-market teams. This is an on-site position located within a global, matrixed organization.

The role suits a senior compliance professional with extensive experience in the fintech, banking, or financial services sector, particularly someone accustomed to supporting sales and partnership teams in a fast-paced environment. The salary for this position ranges from $184,000 to $230,000 per year, with potential additional incentives such as equity and bonuses depending on specific factors including experience and location.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior compliance advisor to commercial leadership and go-to-market teams within the Platforms vertical.
  • Engage early in sales and business development processes to evaluate compliance considerations and structure viable solutions.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between commercial groups and country compliance teams.
  • Own compliance outcomes for relationships involving bank partners, card networks, and stablecoin networks.
  • Evaluate compliance implications of two-tier business models where Nium provides payment capabilities to platforms serving underlying merchants or customers.
  • Provide practical guidance on anti-money laundering, sanctions, know-your-customer, licensing considerations, and payment regulations.
  • Participate in partner and customer discussions to explain Nium controls and requirements.
  • Recommend risk mitigation measures and controls for higher-risk or nonstandard opportunities.
  • Coordinate the resolution of compliance questions and escalations affecting commercial negotiations or launches.
  • Develop scalable commercial compliance playbooks, frameworks, and decision-making standards.
  • Deliver targeted training to customer-facing teams and provide senior leadership with visibility into material compliance risks.

Requirements

  • 12 or more years of progressive experience in compliance, regulatory risk, financial crime, legal, or a related function within fintech, payments, banking, or financial services.
  • Significant experience advising commercial, sales, business development, partnership, or account management teams.
  • Experience managing or supporting compliance matters involving payment infrastructure partners, bank partners, or card networks.
  • Strong knowledge of cross-border payments, money movement, payment platforms, and complex business-to-business relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect commercial teams with country compliance, regulatory, or licensing stakeholders in a global setting.
  • Deep understanding of anti-money laundering, sanctions, customer due diligence, licensing, and payments regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise payments, marketplaces, embedded finance, payment APIs, or banking-as-a-service models.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and licensing frameworks relevant to cross-border payments, money transmission, card programs, and stablecoin networks.
  • Experience engaging directly with external customers, bank partners, regulators, or auditors.
  • Holding CAMS, CRCM, a legal qualification, or another relevant compliance certification.
