Job Description

Moniepoint operates an all-in-one financial platform across Africa, handling monthly access to payments, banking, credit, cross-border services, and management tools for twenty million people and enterprises. As the largest merchant acquirer in Nigeria, the organization handles a majority of point-of-sale transactions in the country and processes over two hundred fifty billion dollars annually in digital payment values. The company is currently hiring a Head of Debt Collections to lead the formulation and execution of corporate debt recovery strategies.

This strategic leadership position focuses on driving down Loss Given Default across both consumer and business lending divisions. The appointed individual will establish the structure of the recovery unit, recruit professional staff, deploy necessary technological infrastructure, and direct all legal remediation pathways. Candidates need substantial expertise in handling high-value non-performing loans, executing litigation-led recoveries, and managing high-volume retail collections.

The role suits a seasoned credit and recovery professional with extensive experience managing national operations, navigating Nigerian legal frameworks, and working alongside external counsel and law enforcement agencies. Professionals who enjoy building organizational units from the ground up, utilizing data-driven methodologies, and reporting directly to senior leadership will find this position aligned with their skill sets.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a segmented debt recovery framework spanning soft collections, legal remediation, restructuring, and write-offs.
  • Define team structures, hire professional personnel, and set up operational systems including dialer tooling, tracking dashboards, and collection management software.
  • Oversee legal recovery strategies and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and collection laws.
  • Engage with external counsel, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement agencies to resolve non-performing loans.
  • Establish performance metrics, incentive programs, and commission structures to optimize recovery rates and reduce collection costs.
  • Train and develop the recovery network on industry standards and strategies.
  • Deliver performance reports covering recovery costs, recovery rates, and portfolio trends to senior management.
  • Collaborate with finance, risk, legal, and credit teams to align collection efforts with portfolio strategies and underwriting rules.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience in debt recovery and credit, including senior leadership in managing high-value non-performing loans.
  • Direct background in both relationship-driven corporate recovery and tech-enabled, high-volume digital retail collections.
  • Familiarity with court procedures, banking regulations, and debt recovery laws in Nigeria.
  • Experience with digital collection tools such as CRM systems, dialers, app-based nudges, behavioral segmentation, and propensity-to-pay scoring.
  • Demonstrated history of building, scaling, or designing a recovery division including team hiring and infrastructure setup.
  • Extensive national network of law enforcement contacts and legal counsel across all six geo-political zones in Nigeria.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
