Nucleus Financial is seeking a remote Head of Operational Risk to lead its Operational Risk Team. In this position, the professional will guide staff in their interactions across various business divisions, champion the Risk Management Framework, and provide independent guidance to executives and board governance forums. The successful candidate will foster a robust risk culture, help first-line teams take ownership of their controls, and mentor junior risk professionals. Responsibilities
- Promote and embed the Risk Management Framework across the organization
- Collaborate with Risk and Compliance teams to strengthen the framework using business insights
- Provide oversight of risk management to ensure clear distinction between first and second lines of defense
- Ensure material risk events are managed to resolution with feedback loops for future risk management
- Conduct thematic reviews of key operational risks identified by oversight or executive direction
- Deliver forward-looking risk information and guidance to divisional management and governance forums
- Organize risk workshops with subject matter experts to assist Finance with the ICARA process
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the business
- Motivate and mentor the Operational Risk Team to achieve timely delivery and high standards
Requirements
- Senior-level experience operating in operational risk management within UK financial services organizations
- Prior leadership experience managing a team or department
- Strong technical knowledge of risk management practices
- Experience conducting risk and control workshops with diverse subject matter experts
- Technical knowledge and experience in risk management within change, information security, technology, operations, third-party management, operational resilience, or financial management
- Experience engaging and presenting at the Executive level or above
Qualifications
- Professional qualification in risk management or a related discipline with a strong risk focus, such as accountancy or audit
- Experience with ICARA, ICAAP, or ORSA from an operational risk perspective
