VRChat is seeking a Head of People to lead its human resources function and maintain a tight-knit, high-performing workforce. VRChat operates a social virtual reality platform backed by investors including Makers Fund, Anthos Capital, and HTC, featuring a team with members from major technology and entertainment organizations. In this hands-on leadership role, the Head of People will collaborate directly with executive leadership, department managers, and the recruiting lead to design effective performance, compensation, and onboarding practices.
This position is suited for an experienced practitioner who can balance strategic planning with direct execution, utilize automation and AI to streamline operations, and support a globally distributed workforce. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, communicates effectively with leadership, and champions an inclusive culture within a 100% remote working environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with senior leaders to align decision-making, strengthen accountability, and clarify decision rights
- Translate People priorities into actionable deliverables with defined owners and milestones
- Lead and mentor the People team while managing sensitive matters with discretion and evidence-based judgment
- Run performance-calibration and manager-accountability processes to support employee development and address gaps
- Coach managers through employee relations issues, feedback delivery, and organizational transformations
- Monitor engagement, attrition, and performance data to proactively identify organizational risks
- Develop and oversee leveling, compensation, and equity frameworks in partnership with Finance and executives
- Integrate automation and AI tools into People workflows while safeguarding employee data
- Collaborate with the recruiting lead on workforce planning, hiring quality, and onboarding processes
Requirements
- Demonstrated success leading a lean People function or broad HR remit at a growing technology company
- Direct ownership of performance management practices, manager coaching, employee relations, and HR operations
- Experience building and executing impactful people programs through meaningful organizational changes
- Ability to quickly deliver preliminary iterations of programs and iterate based on stakeholder feedback
- Practical experience improving HR workflows using automation or artificial intelligence responsibly
- Experience managing globally distributed, fully remote teams across multiple employment models
- Strong communication skills to present insights and recommendations to senior leadership
Qualifications
- Background working in technology, gaming, social platforms, or community-driven product environments
- Prior experience at a company where the workforce also inhabits the product, such as gaming or creator tools
- Experience presenting People insights and strategic recommendations to a corporate board
- Familiarity with VRChat or a personal curiosity about social virtual reality and user connectivity
