While the position is remote, applicants are ideally based in the United Kingdom or within a GMT plus or minus three hours time zone provided they possess relevant UK HR experience.

This is an operational role rather than a purely strategic one, requiring direct involvement in daily employee relations, multi-country compliance, process optimization, and leadership coaching. The successful candidate will manage a team of three direct reports, oversee HR data accuracy, and spearhead the planning and execution of the annual company offsite event. The employer offers a dynamic, mission-driven environment focused on mutual flexibility, continuous professional development, and a strong organizational culture.

Responsibilities

  • Protect and model company culture while running engagement surveys and turning results into actionable steps
  • Manage employee relations matters including grievances, disciplinary processes, absences, performance concerns, and exits
  • Ensure multi-country compliance for contracts, handbooks, and policies across all operational jurisdictions
  • Audit, streamline, and document core processes such as onboarding, offboarding, probation, and performance reviews
  • Integrate safe AI workflows to optimize drafting, data management, and employee communication
  • Maintain HRIS accuracy, support global payroll and benefits, and generate reports for executive leadership
  • Plan and execute the yearly company-wide offsite event from logistics and budgeting to facilitation
  • Coach managers by providing simple tools, templates, and guidance for handling personnel matters

Requirements

  • Possess at least 7 years of overall experience in human resources
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years leading a people function or a significant part of it, including small team management
  • Bring extensive hands-on experience managing diverse employee relations cases independently
  • Understand employment law and compliance across the UK and multiple international jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with project-based business operations and correct worker classification models
  • Proven background in planning and running in-person retreats or events for fifty or more attendees
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to operational sites in Africa

Qualifications

  • Prior work experience supporting teams or employment in African nations such as Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Ethiopia
  • Background in a global health or non-governmental organization setting
  • Hold a CIPD Level 5 certification or an equivalent professional HR qualification

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment emphasizing autonomy, trust, and output over face-time metrics
  • Access to global experts via the GLG network and dedicated professional development budgets
