Job Description
OKX, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange and developer of the OKX Wallet, is seeking a Head of Tax Information Reporting to direct and manage its international tax information reporting division. This fully remote position involves overseeing complex compliance frameworks such as CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and US Form 1099-DA across multiple legal entities and a vast global user base. The successful candidate will spearhead a central department responsible for setting policy, managing vendor partnerships, conducting quality assurance, and executing regulatory submissions. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for an experienced professional with deep technical expertise in tax operations and regulatory data reporting within the digital asset sector. The incoming leader will work alongside product, data engineering, finance, legal, and compliance teams, while building and mentoring a compact, senior staff.
The scope of work is heavily data-driven, requiring the ability to extract, reconcile, and validate user, transaction, and balance information from company platforms into precise filings. Key responsibilities include defining data specifications for engineering pipelines, maintaining rigorous quality control standards, managing third-party tax platform vendors, and executing end-to-end filing cycles. The person in this role will also steer global tax self-certification design during user onboarding, manage remediation backlogs for undocumented accounts, and report weekly to the Chief Compliance Officer and monthly to the CARF steering committee.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and 1099-DA reporting lifecycle for all covered entities, including data extraction, reconciliation, file production, quality assurance, filing, and error corrections
- Establish and oversee data specifications for the tax platform vendor regarding user, transaction, and balance aggregations
- Collaborate with Product and Data Engineering teams to construct and test reporting pipelines
- Run quality assurance frameworks by reconciling files to source data, validating against schemas, and conducting cross-entity consistency checks
- Supervise the tax reporting vendor relationship, covering contract scope, delivery schedules, test cycles, and annual renewals
- Interpret tax regimes and formulate group reporting policy for reportable crypto-assets, staking rewards, unhosted wallet transfers, and payment thresholds
- Design global tax self-certification protocols for user onboarding and oversee backlog remediation for existing accounts
- Determine processes for restricting undocumented accounts under CARF and DAC8 in coordination with Product and Compliance
- Track and maintain an entity readiness register covering local registrations, self-certification coverage, and domestic legislation deadlines
- Provide weekly reports to the CCO and monthly reports to the CARF steering committee
- Recruit and lead a small, senior team while working alongside external advisors and local compliance leads
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in tax information reporting, regulatory data reporting, or tax operations at a bank, broker, global exchange, fintech, or digital asset platform
- At least 3 years of experience leading a team
- Direct working background in a distributed, global digital asset business involving exchange or wallet transaction data, multiple legal entities, and international users
- Proficiency in SQL, ability to write data specifications for engineers, and skill in reconciling large transaction datasets to a ledger
- Working knowledge of DAC8, CARF, CRS, and FATCA due diligence and self-certification rules, reportable categories, and XML schemas
- Experience managing a tax reporting platform or vendor through scoping, testing, and delivery milestones
- Track record of building a function from a small foundation, designing controls, drafting policies, and executing an initial reporting cycle
Qualifications
- Direct implementation experience with CARF or DAC8
- Familiarity with US Form 1099-DA or 1099-B production, backup withholding, or Qualified Intermediary reporting
- Experience handling the DAC8 60-day account restriction process or large-scale undocumented account remediation
- Familiarity with GDPR compliance obligations related to sharing customer data with tax authorities, including data protection impact assessments
- Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages for data validation, alongside experience with data warehouse tools such as Databricks
