Job Description

WRS Health, recognized as a top electronic health record provider, develops cloud-based medical practice management and EMR software. The organization is currently hiring a Human-Centered Design Manager to connect technical development with actual user needs. In this position, the professional will guide qualitative research, build interactive prototypes, create user journey maps, and execute usability evaluations. Because confusing software interfaces can impact patient safety and provider efficiency in clinical environments, this position holds substantial importance.

This role is well-suited for a practitioner who enjoys observing users within their daily routines, translating qualitative observations into clear strategies, and supporting design decisions with empirical evidence. The selected candidate will handle tasks ranging from context studies and stakeholder interviews to facilitating workshops and maintaining accessibility compliance. Additionally, the individual will build and scale the organization's human-centered design practices, mentor junior team members, and collaborate closely with product management and engineering squads.

The position is available as a full-time or independent contractor engagement. Candidates must be available to work during standard United States business hours, specifically from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST or 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST. WRS Health is an equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform contextual inquiries, surveys, field observations, and interviews with patients, medical staff, billers, and physicians.
  • Collaborate with support and account management groups to identify usability difficulties from client feedback and support tickets.
  • Convert research findings into service blueprints, personas, journey maps, and system workflows.
  • Share insights with executive and product leadership to influence roadmap priorities.
  • Run cross-functional design workshops and build wireframes and interactive prototypes using software such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Develop AI-assisted features that keep clinical users in control and facilitate easy review of automated output.
  • Plan, moderate, and evaluate formative and summative usability tests prior to and during development cycles.
  • Assess safety-critical medical workflows including e-prescribing and medication management, supporting ONC Safety-Enhanced Design testing.
  • Work alongside engineers, product managers, and business analysts in Agile and Scrum teams to maintain design integrity.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA-safe research practices and accessibility frameworks like WCAG and Section 508.
  • Build and scale the practice by establishing research templates, operations, and standards, while coaching teammates on human-centered methodologies.

Requirements

  • Possess 3 to 6 or more years of professional background in user research, UX design, or human-centered design within enterprise or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in qualitative research methods, usability testing frameworks, Agile or Scrum delivery flows, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Have working knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG accessibility standards and application methods.
  • Provide a portfolio or case studies displaying end-to-end research, synthesis, prototyping, and measurable impact.
  • Maintain availability during standard US business hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST or 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Centered Design, Human-Factors Engineering, Interaction Design, Cognitive Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Bring previous experience designing health IT products such as electronic health records, revenue cycle management, practice management, or telehealth solutions.
  • Understand clinical workflows and medical terminology across ambulatory specialties.
  • Possess familiarity with NISTIR 7804, ISO 9241-210, or ONC Safety-Enhanced Design requirements.
  • Have experience building AI-assisted or automation features featuring human-in-the-loop review patterns.
  • Demonstrate prior experience leading or mentoring researchers and designers, or building a design function from scratch.
  • Familiarity with unmoderated testing tools, remote research methods, and product analytics platforms.
  • Possess a clinical background or previous work history inside a medical practice setting.
