Job Description
This is a full-time, remote software engineering role with the title Infrastructure Engineer at Tailscale. The business calls itself early-stage and entirely distributed, with a mission of making secure links between people and their devices easy. The hire joins engineering, where most non-frontend systems are written in Go.
The job provides shared engineering capabilities to internal business units and builds the tooling and processes those teams need. The engineer carries projects from start to finish, develops working relationships with stakeholders throughout the company, and assists internal customer-facing groups. Typical assignments include sharper monitoring through metrics, alerts, logs and telemetry, improving release pipelines, making changes through infrastructure-as-code, and automating updates for managed platforms and virtual machines.
Other duties include designing, building, validating and documenting central software components, responding to incidents affecting live services, and handling escalated customer support cases. The engineer also collaborates with product engineers to gather figures that inform business choices, and looks for ways to make system resources more efficient, scalable and robust.
Applicants should have hands-on experience with continuous integration and delivery, secrets handling, infrastructure-as-code and monitoring, along with distributed architectures and running managed cloud services, ideally on AWS. Production Kubernetes know-how is a notable advantage. The company is remote-first, expects independent asynchronous work and clear writing and speech. Selection uses AI-assisted screening tools, but people make every hiring decision.
