Alpaca is currently seeking an IT Operations Specialist to join its fully remote technology department. Reporting directly to the IT Operations Manager, this position focuses on delivering end-to-end technical support, resolving cross-platform issues, and securing organizational assets.
This role suits an experienced systems professional with a strong background in multi-platform device management, Zero Trust security frameworks, and workflow automation. The person in this position will handle user lifecycle management, endpoint security, patch deployment, and hardware logistics. Candidates must be based for Eastern Time coverage and prepared to participate in a weekend on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end IT support and transform recurring technical problems into permanent fixes and automated workflows
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex cross-platform issues across macOS, Windows, and Linux
- Collaborate with HR and Security teams to execute scalable onboarding and offboarding procedures covering access, devices, and lifecycles
- Administer mobile device management platforms, including BYOD policies, enrollment workflows, and compliance enforcement
- Oversee patch management by testing, validating, and safely deploying updates across the entire device fleet
- Deploy and secure endpoints and SaaS access within a Zero Trust architecture
- Develop and enhance automation scripts and APIs using workflow tools like n8n for provisioning, inventory, and operations
- Handle hardware procurement, shipping, receiving, device setup, software deployment, and asset inventory tracking
- Contribute to change management, cloud IT changes, documentation, staff training, and continuous system improvements
- Take part in a weekend on-call round-robin schedule and respond to after-hours requests when necessary
Requirements
- At least six years of professional experience in IT operations or systems engineering
- Demonstrated ability to reverse-engineer complex technical problems and implement durable solutions
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of macOS, Windows, and Linux environments
- Hands-on administrative experience with at least two enterprise MDM solutions such as Jamf, Kandji, or Intune
- Proven track record in tested and controlled patch management rollouts
- Familiarity with Google Workspace, 1Password, enterprise SaaS administration, EDR, and identity workflows
- Understanding of Zero Trust environments and networking concepts for securing access and endpoints
- Working fluency in at least two programming or scripting languages
- Experience with cloud platforms including GCP or AWS and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
- Geographic location based for Eastern Time coverage
- Fluent written and verbal English communication skills

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Professional certifications in IT, security, or cloud computing
- Prior ownership of internal operations repositories, workflow tooling, or IT automation platforms
