Hootsuite is actively hiring a Junior Software Developer to join an agile group building scalable software products for customers. This position is open to candidates throughout Canada in provinces where the organization can legally hire. The selected candidate will report directly to the Senior Manager of Software Development.
In this capacity, the developer will handle low-complexity projects while adhering to company guidelines regarding security, accessibility, and privacy. Team members manage the complete delivery lifecycle, ranging from initial beta releases to production-ready applications. Responsibilities include resolving minor bugs independently, collaborating with senior staff on complex issues, participating in code reviews, and contributing to technical documentation. The role requires following established architectural patterns, testing procedures, and continuous integration practices.
Ideal candidates possess a degree in Computer Science or Engineering alongside one to two years of software development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and background. Proficiency in Java or a functional programming language is required. Applicants should demonstrate strong customer focus, resilience through change, and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities
- Deliver low-complexity projects aligned with coding, design, testing, security, accessibility, and privacy standards
- Contribute to team roadmaps by raising questions, offering input, and escalating scope changes or risks
- Engage in team activities, code reviews, and documentation while learning from peers
- Troubleshoot and fix minor bugs independently while working with senior colleagues on complex problems
- Communicate effectively and build positive relationships within a cross-functional team and with stakeholders
- Follow logging, monitoring, debugging, and basic security practices in daily work
- Apply agile processes and continuous integration and delivery methods to ship stories and low-complexity epics
Requirements
- 1 to 2 years of experience developing and maintaining software, including co-op terms and internships, or an equivalent level of education and work experience
- Familiarity with Java or a functional programming language
- Ability to learn and apply root cause analysis to identify bugs and outages
- Capability to follow architecture concepts to extend existing software modules and components
