SGS is hiring a full-time Laboratory Manager to direct lab operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee staff in an on-site setting. This position suits an experienced laboratory leader with a background in geochemistry and mining environments who can manage quality systems, drive strategic planning, and provide technical direction to clients. The successful candidate will maintain ISO/IEC 17025 compliance, monitor workplace health and safety, assist with project budgeting, and handle complex technical issues.
Key duties involve supervising personnel, managing the accredited Quality Management System, evaluating analytical results, and fostering a team-oriented work environment. The person in this role will also develop operational tools, conduct in-house training, and initiate formal improvement requests when system deviations occur. SGS expects adherence to all environmental, safety, and quality policies.
Responsibilities
- Manage overall laboratory operations, efficiency, and quality functions
- Maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and company management systems
- Promote and monitor workplace health and safety as well as environmental policies
- Provide technical support and direction for external clients and customer services
- Assist in the budgeting process for new service development and specific projects
- Develop and implement operational tools, guidelines, and in-house laboratory training
- Direct laboratory staff and program activities while evaluating analytical results
- Resolve unusual or sensitive technical situations promptly
- Initiate formal improvement requests upon identifying system deviations or nonconformities
- Cease unsafe equipment use or work that impacts service quality
Requirements
- Extensive laboratory experience in a mining environment
- Five years of supervision at the management level within a geochemical field
- Instrumentation skills
- Extensive experience with laboratory operations
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or an equivalent qualification
