In this role, the selected candidate will supervise and mentor application engineers, offer architectural guidance, conduct code reviews, and build production-ready applications. Responsibilities include designing microservices with Java and Spring Boot, leading application modernization and containerization initiatives for migration to Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine, and implementing testing strategies alongside observability practices. The position also involves leveraging agentic engineering tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Gemini to speed up development.

Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of application engineers by delivering architectural direction, code reviews, and technical support
- Build and maintain production-ready microservices utilizing Spring Boot, Java, Spring Data, and RESTful APIs
- Drive application assessments, containerization, and migrations from VM environments to Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine
- Troubleshoot and guide application deployments within Kubernetes utilizing Docker containers and CI/CD pipelines
- Establish unit, integration, and API testing procedures to guarantee production readiness
- Construct and upkeep data-access layers that combine SQL and NoSQL databases
- Establish application observability protocols encompassing metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, and logging
- Coordinate with DevOps, security, architecture, and platform engineering teams to define engineering standards
- Oversee modernization projects across a portfolio consisting of over 500 applications
- Utilize AI engineering tools such as Gemini, Claude, and GitHub Copilot to optimize coding, testing, and automation tasks
Requirements
- Extensive experience in application engineering, Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native system design
- Practical background working with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD workflows, testing procedures, and troubleshooting production issues
- Background handling application modernization, cloud deployments, and migrating virtual machines to containers
- Familiarity with distributed systems, application observability, SQL databases, and NoSQL databases
- Proven technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and mentoring capabilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology and Management, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with Vue, React, or Angular and integrating them with RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with cloud platforms other than Google Cloud Platform
