Job Description
Salla is looking for a Lead Backend Engineer for its PayLink group. This is a practical technical leadership job: the lead sets direction, takes responsibility for code quality while building payment-critical back-end services on Java and Spring, while growing a team of back-end engineers.
The lead directs back-end engineering work, designs and delivers payment-critical services and APIs, and sets the bar for coding standards, peer review, test coverage and release preparedness. Accountability for accuracy, dependability and security spans every service the team runs. The lead partners closely with architects and product managers and coaches engineers toward their next level.
Applicants should have eight or more years of Java back-end work with solid Spring skills, a record of technical leadership that still includes writing code, and real payments or fintech experience. Working with at least one payment provider or gateway is compulsory. The listing is on-site and does not name a city.
Responsibilities
- Give hands-on technical direction for back-end engineering on Java and Spring
- Design and build payment-critical services and APIs
- Own code quality across standards, peer review, test coverage and release preparation
- Keep services accurate, reliable and secure across the team's portfolio
- Coach and develop back-end engineers, working with architecture and product colleagues
Requirements
- Eight or more years of Java back-end work with strong Spring experience
- Demonstrated leadership that keeps the lead close to the code
- Real payments or financial-transaction system experience
- Practical work with at least one payment provider or gateway, such as MPGS, Cybersource or mada
- Solid microservice and REST design skills, plus relational databases and test automation
- Experience shipping on Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines
- Daily use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code
Qualifications
- Connections with more than one payment provider or gateway
- Cloud experience on OCI, AWS or Azure
- Event-driven systems, including Kafka
