Job Description

Launch Potato, a discovery and conversion company operating brands like FinanceBuzz, All About Cookies, and OnlyInYourState, seeks a Lead Data Scientist, AdTech for a full-time, remote position. The organization reaches tens of millions of monthly users and connects consumer intent with performance across finance, travel, and entertainment categories. In this hands-on individual contributor role, the specialist will construct the models determining which insurance carrier auto insurance shoppers encounter on the click wall. The objective is to direct users to the optimal carrier to drive conversions and increase partner bidding.

This position requires managing buying models connected to ROAS and integrating carrier conversion data into live production systems. Responsibilities include resolving complex data challenges involving delayed outcomes, sparse sessions, returning shoppers, and market drift. By day 60, the incumbent will independently manage insurance marketplace media buying. Success after one year includes scalable automated marketplace bidding, effective handling of repeat users, and reliable production models. Most of the team operates on East Coast hours.

Responsibilities

  • Build models that determine insurance carrier assignment for auto insurance shoppers on the click wall
  • Manage the buying models tied to media spend and ROAS
  • Integrate carrier conversion data including quotes, policies, and acquisition costs into production models
  • Frame problems directly with the business, gather data, build and validate models, and oversee deployment and monitoring
  • Scale automated marketplace bidding from proof of concept
  • Develop approaches for repeat users and sparse sessions

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on applied data science experience with measurable business impact
  • Demonstrated history of models driving paid media decisions such as spend, bidding, or ad serving
  • Ability to explain resume projects down to the loss function and architecture choice, including neural network fundamentals
  • Experience handling late labels, sparse features, or drift while understanding how bids shape training data
  • End-to-end model ownership from data discovery through deployment and monitoring
  • Expert proficiency in Python and SQL

Qualifications

  • Experience spending real ad budgets in live auctions
  • Familiarity with large-scale ranking or recommendation systems
  • Skill in explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical partners in plain terms
  • Background in designing for auction feedback loops, selection bias, and exploration
  • Hands-on neural network work involving embeddings of text, creative, or user behavior
  • Familiarity with AWS tools for data science including ECS, S3, Athena, and SageMaker
  • Experience with CI/CD deployment
