Job Description

Monzo is hiring a Lead Product Designer to work in one of its product squads. The role is listed as remote within the UK or based in London on a hybrid basis, with a salary of £90,000 to £120,000 plus incentive awards and benefits. The design function has over 115 staff across design, research and brand, and product designers account for close to half of the function. Designers work in close squads with research, product and engineering colleagues.

The lead would take on the trickiest, least clear design problems and turn them into scalable solutions that improve the customer experience. The work includes running large projects that link initiatives across the business, shaping product visions and principles that teams can build towards, and lifting visual polish, covering animation, interaction behaviour and how clearly the product's logic reads. The lead would also improve the design system, tooling and processes so design works at scale, and use AI for ideation, analysis, prototyping and shipping production code to the app.

Applicants should have a record of delivering impactful, customer-focused app design work that tackles hard problems and achieve commercial results. The posting asks for skill in leading research, defining product vision and getting teams to rally behind one strategy. Candidates should be able to create modular, scalable solutions and to communicate insights clearly through design artefacts. Experience navigating multi-squad projects, aligning leadership and bringing clarity to unclear situations is also important, as is a commitment to mentoring and to strengthening the design team through hiring and culture.

The posting explains that candidates go through the usual route used for Lead Product Designer hires, and the team match is made along the way. The interview steps are a 30-minute recruiter call, a one-hour craft interview presenting a single case study to two members of the design team, and two 45-minute sessions that assess teamwork and impact. The process usually takes about four weeks. Relocation help, visa sponsorship and a learning allowance of £1,000 a year are also offered.
